What Is The ADT Trusted Neighbor Feature?

ADT’s Trusted Neighbor™ feature brings the common practice of supplying a neighbor a key to your house into the modern age. It removes the need for actual keys or keypad codes and permits you to manage who can go in your State College home and for how long. Discover more about how to incorporate it with your ADT home security system and Google Nest surveillance.

How Does ADT Trusted Neighbor Work?

You have neighbors you trust to tend to your plants, retrieve your mail, or take your dog out when you leave home. In the past, you would just supply them with a house key. You now have a better option. Thanks to ADT's Trusted Neighbor Feature, you’ll never have to be concerned about lost keys or doors left open.

What you need is an ADT security system, a Google Nest video doorbell, a smart door lock, and the ADT+ app that allows everything to function as one. Here’s how the service works:

  1. You assign access to a trusted individual, like a close friend or neighbor, through the ADT+ app.
  2. Then, you set permissions. You can provide neighbors with timed access, permitting them to enter and depart during a designated timeframe, or event-based access. For instance, if a package arrives, the system can unfasten the door to let your neighbor take it inside once it validates them.
  3. When you’ve programmed access, your Google Nest Doorbell with familiar face functionality verifies your neighbor as they proceed toward the door.
  4. Your ADT home security will pause the alarm and deactivate the lock when the person is verified as an authorized guest.
  5. You are sent real-time updates as your neighbor enters and departs. The app also provides a detailed log.
  6. After the trusted neighbor leaves, your smart door lock automatically secures to shield your home.

You can authorize access for any individual you would like, such as a pet sitter, a maintenance worker, or a friend who shows up when you’re not there. This tool is also beneficial during urgent events, specifically when you’re off site. To illustrate, if a water sensor triggers, your system can authorize event-driven access so an individual can enter and shut off the water supply. The handy app makes setting permissions straightforward.

ADT Trusted Neighbor is an excellent example of how ADT makes your State College home more connected and secure while simplifying your daily life. This tool isn’t only for neighbors and friends, as you’ll enjoy the facial recognition and auto-unlock operability when you’re carrying kids or packages. When you're inside, the door locks behind you automatically.
